In chemistry, the formula weight is a quantity computed by multiplying the atomic weight (in atomic mass units) of each element in a chemical formula by the number of atoms of that element present in the formula, then adding all of these products together.

The atomic weights used on this site come from NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. We use the most common isotopes. This is how to calculate molar mass (average molecular weight), which is based on isotropically weighted averages. This is not the same as molecular mass, which is the mass of a single molecule of well-defined isotopes. For bulk stoichiometric calculations, we are usually determining molar mass, which may also be called standard atomic weight or average atomic mass.

Formula weights are especially useful in determining the relative weights of reagents and products in a chemical reaction. These relative weights computed from the chemical equation are sometimes called equation weights.

Using the chemical formula of the compound and the periodic table of elements, we can add up the atomic weights and calculate molecular weight of the substance.

A common request on this site is to convert grams to moles. To complete this calculation, you have to know what substance you are trying to convert. The reason is that the molar mass of the substance affects the conversion. This site explains how to find molar mass.

Finding molar mass starts with units of grams per mole (g/mol). When calculating molecular weight of a chemical compound, it tells us how many grams are in one mole of that substance. The formula weight is simply the weight in atomic mass units of all the atoms in a given formula.

If the formula used in calculating molar mass is the molecular formula, the formula weight computed is the molecular weight. The percentage by weight of any atom or group of atoms in a compound can be computed by dividing the total weight of the atom (or group of atoms) in the formula by the formula weight and multiplying by 100.

Bromine - Chemistry LibreTexts

Bromine – Chemistry LibreTexts – From Wikipedia. Bromine is a chemical element with symbol Br and atomic number 35. It is the third-lightest halogen, and is a fuming red-brown liquid at room temperature that evaporates readily to form a similarly coloured gas. Its properties are thus intermediate between those of chlorine and iodine.Isolated independently by two chemists, Carl Jacob Löwig (in 1825) and Antoine JérômeBromine formula, also known as Dibromine formula or Brome formula is explained in this article. Brome is a volatile liquid, reddish-brown in colour. It has a pungent odour and gives off suffocating vapours. Bromine Formula – Chemical Formula, Structural Composition – The most prevalent forms of bromine tablets are 1-bromo-3-chloro-5, 5-dimethylhydantoin (BCDMH) and a tablet composed of a mixture of three chemicals: BCDMH, 1,3-dichloro-5, 5-dimethylhydantoin (DCDMH), and 1,3-dichloro-5-ethyl-5- methylhydantoin (DCEMH). Bromine tablets are typically fed into the water via either a floater or a bromine feeder.ABOUT BROMINE. Bromine, a heavy, mobile, reddish-brown liquid with an intensely irritating odour, is the only non-metallic element that is a liquid at normal room temperatures. It is a diatomic molecule with the chemical formula Br2.Bromine is a chemical element with symbol Br and atomic number 35. Classified as a halogen, Bromine is a liquid at room temperature.

Bromine – Wikipedia – The chemical formula for aluminum bromide is AIBr 3. Aluminum bromide has one aluminum ion combined with three bromide ions. It is made by pouring powdered aluminum into a container of liquid bromine. The reaction can be reversed by significantly increasing the temperature of the solution.Bromine is also used in the production of catalysts, such as aluminum bromide. Bromine has other uses, as in making various dyes and the compounds tetrabromoethane (C 2 H 2 Br 4) and bromoform (CHBr 3), which are used as liquids in gauges because of their high specific gravity. The BROMINE PENTAFLUORIDE molecule contains a total of 6 atom (s). There are 5 Fluorine atom (s) and 1 Bromine atom (s). A chemical formula of BROMINE PENTAFLUORIDE can therefore be written as: BrF5.
