You could work it out explicitly, assuming the bulbs all have resistance R and using a voltage V, then the brightness will depend on the power in each bulb Pn=In * Vn

Or with some hand-waving, the power in A and B is the same, since they have the same voltage across them (P = V^2/R). The power in D and E is the same, since they have the same current (P=I^2*R).

The total resistance of the A and B in parallel is less than that of C,D,E because D+E is more than C. That means the voltage across A,B is less than the voltage across C because both halves have the same current (they are in series). So C has more power than A or B.

Proving that A is brighter than D I’d have to think some more.
