Should water be considered a public good (not privatized)?

Water Crisis: human right or commodity?

Water is a fundamenal human right, and not everyone has money to buy it. If they dont have the funds to buy the water then they will become unhealty and die. It should be a right because a billion people lack access to a basic water supply, and less than half of Africa live more than a 15 minute mwalk away from clean water.

That gives incentive for charging the air we breath.

I don’t see any right of making water private. Water exists in nature, and should be available for everyone. If water is privatized, this will give more profit and power to the companies that sell it. More power means more control. Companies already control enough aspects of our daily lives. Controlling the water supply as well, and distributing it as they see fit, it reduces our freedom even more. So, let’s not make water private, because if it becomes private then -who knows?- maybe in the future they will privatize the air we breathe.

We have to have it

We need water, the UN says we have a right to clean water – they force us to give money to a private company with no alternative. That’s an illegal monopoly in my book. I would be happy to pay the same amount to the state of my country – not Dubai who own Thames water.

WATER SHOULD BE FREE!

YES YES YES!

Why would you privatize something so essential to, not only the human race but to plants and animals. It will be a messed up world the day we privatize water. This should not even be considered a question, only corrupt people would think of something so messed up like this. WE NEED TO RE-HUMANISE THE WORLD ASAP!

Modern industry is extremely powerful

As the state of art of technology of today, absolute, sustainable abundance should be the hallmark of our present civilization. Providing for every nutritional need, for every human being, is the least that can be expected from our society. Today techniques of water tapping, gathering and storage, vastly exceeds the demand from the general public of the world, as well as the capability to distribute it.

I can’t believe there is still people, with enough stupidity and/or greed, that wishes water to be a luxury and not a human right.

Private companies are just profit makers

Water service is a basic human right and not a business. Water will be best managed by a government which is answerable to the public and not by private companies. Also privatization will lead to even more corruption in the society.Privatization is not the cure to corruption rather a cause for corruption.

Water should be available to everyone for free!

Water should be free to everyone! Water is something living things need to live and grow (plants, animals, and humans.) The greedy people who sell water for money should not be allowed! Water is like air, we need it. Take a poor family, in the future water will be used so much from the generation’s, the price will go up, and poor family’s may not be able to afford water, so they could die!

It’s vital for our life; to afford will not be healthy.

Water is vital for the lives of all humans, meaning we must have it for free. Another is that the water that we take in to help us has to be clean and purified and it is not all humans who are able to afford this clean and purified water. If all cannot afford it, this means that those who are not able to will either not be healthy or clean or might die of the lack of water in the body. Well, I think the government has to make it free so that all will be able to afford it and we can all live a good life. I hope you like my opinion and also hope the government likes this.

Profit Versus People

Just because you can collect and market a resource doesn’t give you the right to allocate it at your own free will and for people to purchase it from you. With enough money, one could acquire all the rice in the world through private purchasing, then process it and sell it back to the population at a ridiculous mark-up. Americans may not notice much of a difference, but developing countries would most likely starve. You might think this is an exaggeration but water is even MORE free and common than rice. And nobody is buying WATER — they’re buying property and stealing a NECESSARY *natural resource* and then selling it back for 100% profit. THAT is absurd.

Privatized Water is Expensive!

the non-profit water advocacy group Food and Water Watch looked at average water rates charged by utilities in California, Illinois, Wisconsin, and New York, it found that private utilities charged consumers “significantly higher water rates” than public ones did—as much as 50 percent more. there is no effective competition to provide water in a given area (private water utilities are essentially local monopolies) there is no market incentive to cut costs.

Water is a basic human need, and it should be a public utility run by local government entities.

Water is necessary for survival. A private company might be tempted to raise prices, because they have a monopoly on the needed product. Privatization does not fit with monopolies. Government should run monopolies for the good of the public consumer.

Water is too important to be controlled by private interests.

Since water is vital for life and all human beings, as well as for the environment, this resource should be controlled in a democratic way in which everyone affected has a voice. If water were privatized, the people controlling the resources would not be acting in the public interest, and might not consider everyone’s needs in resource allocation.

Posted by: BrokenMarvin34

Water should not be privatized, because allowing a few people to profit off such an important resource is obscenely unfair.

Water should not be privatized. If a few greedy people are allowed to monopolize the world’s fresh water, it will cause widespread death and misery to those who are too poor to pay for it. There is only so much fresh water on the planet. And, it’s not like the rich people of the world had any hand in creating that water, or maintaining it. No group of people should be allowed to profit off of such an important and limited resource.

Water should be a public good, because it’s safety and availability must be guaranteed.

If water is not a public good, then how will everyone be guaranteed clean and safe water? How will the cost, safety, and quantity of water be safely regulated? If public water was not considered a public good, and was all of a sudden privatized, how would we make sure that contaminates were removed, or at a safe level, before offered to their buyers?

Posted by: AmuckRory54

Water is essential to all life, and therefore should be a public good, not privatized.

Water is not only essential to human society and human life, but also all life on this planet. The privatization of this resource benefits those who capitalize on it in the short term, and harms not only all others who become consumers by limiting availability, but also the longer term needs of all earthly life.

Water is a necessity to survive; therefore, accessibility to water should not be difficult.

Essentials needed to survive should not be privatized. They should be protected from human mistreatment, but not closed off from public use. To give a monopoly on an item which is a necessity to survive to a small group of people could create a full out revolution. Naturally, it would be wrong to control a natural resource which should be available to everyone. We should never get to a point where we have to worry about where we will find water to survive.

Posted by: taintedhues

Yes, because water needs to be controlled and protected for the public good, because it is the essence of life.

Where there is private/for-profit control of lakes and rivers, the owners are able to create dams that cut off or limit vital water flow to people living nearby.

Posted by: R0m4nticHamm

I agree that water is a public good; it is not something meant to be bought or sold.

Plants need water. Animals need water. People need water. We need water like we need air – it should be free, or at the very least, at cost. Nobody holds the right to charge others for water – nobody has the right to make a profit off of peoples’ needs in order to live. It would be like charging people to breathe air.

Posted by: 54ndDavi

Yes, I agree that water should be considered a public good.

All essentials for the existence of life such as air and water cannot be made one’s own property. Moreover they are available in abundance naturally and does not need anyone’s effort or investment. They just need to be safeguarded from extreme human exploitation, hence water should not be privatized and must be considered as public good.

Posted by: SaroM0vi3

Water should be considered a public good because it belongs to all people.

If water is privatised, it will be controlled in the hands of few people. They might charge huge amounts of money for something that occurs naturally and is a basic right of each and every individual. So water should be considered as a public good.

Posted by: danoneeno

Water should be considered to be a public good because it is a necessity for all living beings.

I totally agree that that the water should be considered as public good and not privatized into the hands of few people. Water is the natural resource which is very necessary for all living beings. Making it privatized could create a monopoly in the market which is not really good for all living creatures. Water is one of the basic elements for the survival of human beings, so making it privatized would mean denial of a basic necessity. We should not privatize the water and it should be considered as a public good.

Privatization of water is a ridiculous idea.

Talk about great ways to eventually start a war or rebellion. Water is a resource that unlike many others, including oil, is one that is required for life. Luckily it is a very renewable resource, but privatization of anything can get a little dicey. If for some reason water became hard to come by, you would not want it in the hands of private groups.

Posted by: 5h035Bow

Water is an essential resource for life and should not be limited by a corporation.

There are two reasons why water should not be limited. Firstly, it’s a dangerous precedence because the corporation now has the ability to limit a vital resource to citizens, which in the worst case scenario could mean that it has the ability to choose whether a citizen lives or dies by providing water or not. Secondly, the water is sent through pipes that were originally created and maintained by municipal funds so a corporation shouldn’t be able to use those for free.

Posted by: P3rEver

I do believe that water should be considered a public good, no one should own water it is for everyone to enjoy.

Water should not be a commodity, it should be available to all people. You should be able to dig a well if you wanted and get water. When private companies control a natural resource the basically control the people. Lets free up our resources and let people have the basic necessities that should be afforded to them. We shouldn’t get to a point where we are begging for things like water. Or paying tons of money to have water.

Government needs to protect its citizens and not big business.

Water like air is a public good. We cannot depend on either one through businesses profiting from it. We pay so much in taxes yet get fairly little back when you compare it to European countries. The business of water needs to be run by a business-lie setting overseen by citizens and government.

Water should be free

Water should be free and a basic human right. It is essential for survival. People have no choice, Without water, We die. Simple as. Without it hygiene cannot be maintained, Diseases spread and we die. Water should be free, In every nation. Poverty exists in every nation. Water should be free.

Water should be Free

Water should be free because homeless need water to be hydrated. I’m not saying that we should get the 1, 000 dollar water. But water should be free. At a concert it’s like 5. 00 dollars. At a amusement park it’s 6. 00 dollars. Water should be free. Making water free should be the law.

Water is Life and Every Person have Right to Live.

Water is the basic need of every life whether it is a human being or animals. Without water life is not possible, And it is also not possible to every people afford clean water as India is a poor country as like India there are many countries in this world have poverty problem and due to unhygienic water every year thousands of people loose their life and many family loose their family members and many infant child loose their life before it begin.

Its on the earth

The there is water all around the earth, they should not sell stuff that our earth has given us they just do this to make profit water should be a human right in every country, people die bc they cant afford water then they drink dirty pond water to survive then the die cause of disease

Life trumps Profit

What side No doesn’t seem to realize is that water is required to be alive. To charge for water is to charge for breathing air or thinking, and it is absurd that we do this to say the least! It is environmentally destructive what bottled water companies do, as well as legal fraud since they claim their water is purified and better than tap water when it has been overwhelmingly, irrefutably proven to not be the case.

We can easily pay for the services and pipe lines and maintenance through taxes which regardless of what ANY “republican” would try to tell you since they would be the only ones who would object to such a thing, it would not cost us 99.99 % tax rates or trillions of dollars or any other LIE they would try to feed you about the cost and how oppressive socialism is or any other retarded ass lie. The amount we pay in water bills is extremely small as it is anyway and paying a tax on water to ensure that it is a free would not only implode the destructive and fraudulant bottle water industry, but ensure that the right to have access to clean fresh water to survive, such as those from Flint Mich do NOT have, would have it.

It is appalling that this is the DIGITAL AGE, the 21st century and we cannot provide clean water to people WHO ARE PAYING FOR WATER! How is THAT capitalism for you? HUH! HUH?! Where is your precious CAPITALISM?!!? HUH DUMB ASS?! Where is it? The precious! Capitalism! I mean? They are paying water bills, so by your capitalistic NAY SAY, they should have what I have here, fresh clean water coming out of the pipes!…Ooooohh…Buuuttt loooook!!! They don’t have that now do they and the government, the republicans, conservatives, democrates, No one has any interest in changing that at all.

You wanna know what comes out of flint Mich pipes? Lead water! Brown water that is poisonous to drink or bathe in. If you do, you will die and the Agencies have declared it still safe because they only care about making a profit and fixing the pipes would drain all their precious profit. People need to flush toilets, so they refuse to fix it since they can still make money off people pooping!

Water is life, life is greater than Profit. I say we create a new Amendment guaranteeing water as a right to everyone, not just those who can pay for it, nor those who the water utilities can profit from.

Water should actually be a right and not privatized. It should not be a good.

Water is taken for free from public resources and then sold back to the people who live there and other places and sold at an unreasonable price. When water is privatized they take as much as they want just so they can make profit. Because of this, lots of our aquifers are gone like in mexico city, and the land is slowly collapsing on itself there, hence why the buildings are slanted in some parts. Even in Bolivia they privatized water so much that they banned people from collecting rain water, causing a huge uproar. People privatizing water also is the reason why places in africa dont have clean water to drink. Companies go over there and take the water freely and privatize it just so they could sell it to other countries and them for a higher price than a can of soda. If we keep privatizing water we won’t have anymore fresh water to drink because these companies don’t consider it a right at all. Only 3 percent of water on earth is fresh and we pump 30 billion gallons a day. Anyone who thinks it should be privatized is only considering money and not the lives lost every day because they can’t get clean water out of their own rivers and others because companies privatize it.

Water is necessary for life.

We ARE entitled to water as a natural resource by virtue of being alive and living, and must reject private interests controlling this precious commodity. Everyone must be able to have drinking water. The rich and poor alike must be protected from any form of manipulation or ‘control of’ this necessary and natural life-ingredient.

Water con, Shareholders dream

I live in Old ham near Manchester which is in the foothills of the pennies.United utilities say water is scarce- it isn’t, the resoviours near me are all full, including the hidden ones they don’t want you to know about.Dovestones is fed from 2 large lakes which are behind it out of sight plus the 2 or more underground ones hidden in the area. There are other underground resioviors actually in and around Oldham It has got to a stage where I cant afford to have a bath, wa. Ter my garden or clean my drive. They had the nerve to send me am inflatable brick to put in my toilet cistern, why not tell me to go to the nearest building site and get a brick from there to shorten the flush? I have two grown lads both over 6 foot to and a shortened flush blocks the toilet if you get my meaning, so it costs 3 times as much to sort out if the “brick” is used.Water should be free for homes and only businesses should have a bill, ie, car washes factories swimming baths etc. united utilities is run for the benefit of its share-holders after privatization who expect a return. Take any costs out of another tax there seem to be a hell of a lot of taxes considering there are few jobs. The population of the UK is to high for the size of the country.

Water should be a public good.

Everyone has a right to live, and water is one of the three major basic needs to live. Many companies that provide water always have a tendency to abuse their power. It’s a case of capitalism. They think they can fool the less informed people into thinking that they need to pay them money to live. And sure, water is being wasted by irresponsible people because those kinds of people do exist in this world. But we can make campaigns. The government can implement laws that will reduce the wastage of water. Therefore, water should be freely accessible to the public.

Water is lit

Because its lit and people need lit to live if they don’t have lit the people will die and people die the world ends so we need the water to be free in order for the world to keep being lit. The lit people of the world want the water to keep being lit.

LITTTTTTT!!!

Our drinking water is coming from the mountain, our natural resources and we paid only less than a dollar lately our politician want it privatized favorable to oligarch investor where our Philippine presidents bread and butter i opposed publicly and exercise our democracy now my president candidate in the name of rodrigo duterte from Famous Davao City where on top of safest city

Water is a human necessity!

There’s this thing, and it’s called DEHYDRATION!!!!! People can DIE if they don’t have water! Yes it’s true that water isn’t limitless, but there’d be a whole lot more of it if we weren’t DUMPING SEWAGE IN IT!!! We should be more care full with our water, and use it for NECESSARY reasons. Like… Oh I don’t know… Maybe, HUMAN CONSUMPTION! In some countries, CHILDREN have to walk miles to get a BUCKET of dirty water. Yet some people are dumping sewage in water. Of course water should be a public good! It’s a human necessity! We should also be way more careful with what we do with it.

Just why ?

We should have a government but they shouldn’t control our water usage. First is it the governments water to begin with? I dont think its a good idea to give control over our water to someone who is going and looking to sell it back to us. Its natures water and i think its just stupid for water to be controlled people are suffering and dying because they cant affored it\!

Companies Can Support Infrastructure

In a country, the infrastructure that supports the water industry must be maintained to continue the deliver of water to the citizens within the country. However, most governments cannot support this essential infrastructure, without raising taxes and angering citizens. Therefore, private companies must take control of the water industry. If companies took over the water industry, they could set reasonable prices that would allow for a surplus of money to be used for infrastructure.

Water is a human right

Yes, water should be a human right as it is crucial to survival. In saying this, it is not crucial for all actions (i.E. Filling up a swimming pool). Water should 100% be free for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and hygiene, but people who tend to take advantage of this need to be charged more to discourage them from overusing.

Public is Right

Governments should set aside a proper budget to ensure there is enough money for infrastructure to reach all committees, certified water plantations and everyone to have a considerable amount. For Industrial and agricultural use, governments need to have policies put in place to regulate there water use and disposal or toxic water. Maybe it is a distribution problem

Privatization is costly and leads to conflict

If water is a privatized good, countries that need water will not obtain it. Companies will buy the water for market prices, and those who need water will no longer be able to afford it. Countries who can afford the water will try to have as much water as they can by blocking the flow of water through other countries. This will divide the world into those who do and do not have water, and could eventually start more conflict. As well, companies owning water will cost more money to the city because if they pollute the water, that cost is then on the city not on the company.

Less people would die

Basic. Human. Right. You. Monsters.

I cannot understand how people can actually think that we should take something that every creature on the planet needs to live. You can say that “we hardly have any pure water” and other things supporting the privatization of water, but really, all you are doing in condoning the same thing that the slave owners did, taking the resources that belong to people, and saying that they don’t deserve it. I am assuming most of you have families, significant others, children, etc. well, if you privatize water, you are doing the same thing as taking water from people who need that water to live, make their living, grow food for their families, and you are choosing to kill families. All I can say is that taking everything that people need to survive, is practically murder. Congratulations Corperate owners, you are committing genocide, all for money. You are terrible human beings.

Think about the dying children and family’s

Do you think its fair to leave people to die on the side of the road just because they aren’t able to afford water? Water is an essential human right! It isn’t right to take it from people. You need water to survive and there are a lot of people that haven’t got the funds to buy it, Should we just let these people die?

Pay in order to live?!?!?!?

First of all water is more important than food. If there are company that are making money through water, then we are basically paying in order to live. That’s not right!! We are paying to in order to survival and life. WHAT HAVE THE WORLD COME TO?! Also many people can’t afford water, so they are basically gonna die without a chance of living

Water for all!

I know there are a lot of arguments that if water was a public domain that it would deplete our resources but I don’t think I can grasp that. I feel private organizations that suck our resources dry are what is going to drive us to drought. Private water is too expensive too so we are failing as a Human race letting people dehydrate in the world.

Water is a natural resource!

Water should be given to everyone. Millions have died because of not being able to afford water. I understand everyone wants to limit the amount we take in, but we need water in order to survive. Are we going to start charging people for air too ? It’s not fair for us to think everyone in the world has money in order to live. We need to look at the bigger picture of millions dying and not having water accessible to them. And that’s why we shouldn’t just let money rule over. Are we really becoming that greedy and are world becoming more corrupt and this leading into another battle

For richer or Poorer

It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor! Our government has to find a way to keep water fresh, clean and affordable to everyone. Our cities should redirect the revenue made from our water bills into actually repairing water infrastructures and make more “affordable” plans for water conservation. Water is a natural resource and everyone has to have it to survive. I’m against privatization, these companies are so corrupt and filled with greed. They don’t consider the well fare of some countries where poor families can’t afford the high water costs. People are dying because they can’t afford water; it’s our human right to have water so why can’t it be affordable to all?

Bottled water is a scam

There is only “limited amounts of freshwater available” now because companies like Nestle are buying it and sucking it all up to put into tankers. Water is not a “food stuff”, it is a human right and I believe that it is a system of conscious, slow and sustained eradication of the poorest people in the world. They do this by purchasing clean water, bottling it and selling it, this all sounds perfectly fine but the catch here of course is that only people with a good income can afford this “cleaner” water – thus resulting in the death of the poorest. It is a conscious effort to keep the wealthy alive and the poor sick and dying. The United States and the United Kingdom also have access to some of the cleanest water in the world and yet we have been tricked by the capital hungry water hunters that bottled water is better for us. When any single person argues “the water tastes better from the bottle”, that is your brain tricking you because of what you have been conditioned to believe.

Water is required for the human body.

Water also known as h2o is really important for the human body and is highly required to stay fit and healthy. Without water we will die. 70% of the world is made up of water and 30% of the world is land, so its not good or healthy for the poor people to drink dirty and salty water cause they can afford water if it was paid.

Everyone needs water.

Water is a public good. If you don’t have water, you DIE. Water SHOULD not be a luxury of rich people, it should, by all means, be economically acceptable by all. Anyway, many private companies DON’T MAKE GOOD USE OF IT. Is this what we want? Come on! Just think.

Should water be privatized

A large percentage of our body is water. Water is necessary for life to exist. So why should any company or companies have the right to own the water? THEY DO NOT. It’s simply another ruse for profit. Water will become the Oil fo the 231st century if we don’t watch it. They will escalate the cost of a drink of water and life will become intolerable. But this is what the corporate globalists want to own life or death over all of us.

Water should be free because people and animals need it to live and humans should not have to pay for a life necessity !!!

Why should we pay for something we need to survive? Public water should be that for the public ! And it should be ran by volunteers …And not paid employees…All public water should be purified and natural minerals added not chemicals and sodium fluoride. We need better water to become healthy. If people want private bottled water then they can pay for that if they choose !!! But tap water should be free for everyone !!!!

Water is a right

Water is essential for humans as we cannot survive without it. Many people who are in poverty do have a lot of money and will find it hard to get access to water. If it was free, everyone can have access to it ( daily). Corporations should not make money on something that is a right. People need water and it should stay with the people of the earth not in the hands of corporations. People need it and because of this they should have access to it for free.

Water is necessary for life

Privitization has only led to higher costs for an essential natural resource, and the companies who control much of the worlds fresh water have a profit incentive to control it, but no requirement to maintain sustainability. Transporting water far from the source might be profitable, but it leads to desertification and ultimately causes disease and death. It’s bad for everyone if there are no checks and balances.

Let’s privatise oxygen whilst we are at it!

It is a ridiculous idea to privitise water – it is a human right and humans should be free to collect without been prosecuted! Food is privitised because it takes labour, time and resources to produce – these need to be paid for. Water however, can be very easily collected by hand. What is a somebody left a bucket outside which happens to fill with water while it was raining. Would they be thrown in jail if they were to drink this? Heck, if we are privatising water, why aren’t we privatising oxygen!

Water should be free

Water is a life necessities and people are selling it! People are dying right now because they cant afford it that 2nd degree murder by those companies privatising the water. That means that people are making money of deaths those companies are not much better than criminals WATER SHOULD BE PUBLIC!

Water should be freeeeeeeeee!!

There are so many people dying everyday because of the shortage of water. Take africa for instance, people have to walk miles just to get some dirty water with tonnes of bacteria in to survive! Clean water is needed all over the world, to wash, to boil, to drink and to feed animals and crops.

Water should be free!!!

Water is a natural supplement and someone cant just go and say its theirs. If we have to pay for water far more jobs will be loosed and thousands of business will shut down like swimming pools, hotels etc. and so many children will loose out on having the chance to make great new friends and learning new abilities. The world will become a very arrogant and spiteful world as no one will no how to socialise. If we had to pay for water animal shelter4s will close down as they wont have enough money to pay for water and thousands and thousands of animals will be left homeless. People will start getting water from anywhere eg. Puddles, streams unsafe water and hospitals cant help because so many will be shut down. We pay enough taxes already the last thing we need is water taxes as well. So many more people will be out homes as it is just far far far to expensive to own or even rent a house. Please people listen we shouldn’t have to pay for water

Water is essential to protect life on earth

So no matter what kind of private contracts beeing adopted to provide water to citiens, water should always remain as a public good that governments decide on how to guarantee. Access to healthy water should be considered as an essential human right all over the world. A minimum water consumption should thus be guaranteed by gov’s for free, beeing able to tax only for the water exceeding that minimum .ThanksMarc Hernandez

Yes it should

Water should be available to all people, because water is a natural resource, and is a basic need for people to live, so all people in the world should be able to get it, but that’s not the case, large companies are putting big prices on his product to get a large profit from the public, because they don’t care about what the public needs are, they just care about getting more money, even though it is a Human Right we all have.

Water is mandatory for life…….

Water is mandatory for all life to exist, not an option. As such, there is a moral and ethical obligation to not allow its control for business purposes. Doing anything else, is intentionally controlling a necessary component of life which in the wrong hands and for the wrong purposes, would allow for the decisions of life and death to be controlled by those who control the water.

Translational Control Us!

Translational corporations control over most aspects of our lives. They decide what products we can buy, and have a huge impact on developed and developing countries’ economies and politics. So if they control the water supplies available to us, they will own over lifes. Also, most people in developing countries will be forced to pay wages to get access to water in lakes and rivers.

Transnational corporations have no right to privatize one of the most important natural resources on Earth

Water is too essential to everyone’s daily life. If the transnational corporations gain control over water, it probably means that the entire populations on world, including animals, humans, and plants, are all under the corporation’s control. By controlling the water sources, the corporations gradually gain an enormous amount of power over the world, which leads to the domination of the corporations. They have control over the distribution of the water supplies, which can be unjustified. If their bias is towards the developed countries, then the citizens in the developing countries will suffer over dehydration. The governments should obtain the right to the water supplies, as water being a public good for everyone in the world.

Water should be a public good!!!

Freshwater should be a public good because people, plants, and animals need this water to survive. With water privatized people will use their water for granted and just pollute it even more. If we privatize the water than we wont be able to access the water we need and we wont survive.

Water should not cost!!!!

We need water in order to survive. I believe privatizing water is only useful for the companies because they are the ones who are taking all of our money. We need another way to control the usage of water that does not include taking our money. Control this before society goes broke! -holly

Water is not a luxury – it is essential to human life. NOBODY should be denied water because they lack money.

Access to water cannot be left in charge of people whose primary aim is to make a profit. Any remotely responsible government should ensure that its population has the necessary access to it. Yes, it costs money to process it and that’s why people pay taxes. Water is not a ‘product’ and it is simply immoral to deny it to anyone that needs it.

Essential for Life

It is a human right and animal right to have water it is like the air we breath it is for all and is owned by everyone it is the common good and cannot ever be bought and sold. It would be murder if a corporation bought it and denied it to all

Water is a fundamental need

Water is a fundamental need to all humans (and animal for that matter). Societies are dependent on this resource and who controls it has all the power. Even if societies still keep a public regulator to watch their “interest”, the power of private monopolies is much higher. Why do all top managers of these watchdog units end up as directors of the private companies they used to regulate?

Share public water

Water is a human right and should not be turned over to private entities to make a profit on providing this valuable resource. There is no business model that provides evidence that private for profit is better or safer in the interest of all consumers. In fact if a private model is used there is a risk that some will be left without clean water all together.

We are so primitive.

Even when we talk about privatization, we don’t really grasp what it really means. No one owns anything in reality. Until we do not evolve enough to understand this at its deepest truth at a global scale, we will have people with more than they can consume, and people dying of hunger and thirst. That’s just one spectrum of it. This only gets better when you add the fact that an insignificant piece of paper that you worked to ‘earn’, gives you the right to drink something that will keep you alive. What a brain job.

Water is a human right

Water is a human right as we need it to survive and we are unable to choose who supplies it to us. Privatized water companies only care about their profits and as water companies have a monopoly they can get away with charging what ever they feel like. They should never be privatized unless there is the option of who supplies it to us.

Water, a human right.

Water should not be privatized, for, without water we cannot survive. Water supports nearly all life on the planet and no one should have control over life. Greedy people can take all the water and rule over the lives of those who do not have enough money to buy water from them. As a conclusion, the privatization of water would be a dangerous step that could put life at risk.

It’s not only humans that need water.

Water must be free accessible by every living being. Since water is the main ingredient of any living being, And being able to sustain life is not just a birthright, it’s a duty. If large companies like Nestle were to get their hands on the water “rights”, they will deprive all but their own of the immensely valuable commodity that water is in their eyes. When has a company shown that it can act responsibly while collecting “commodities”? Nestle left indigenous peoples without a drop of water after they were done extracting water there…

This is a basic Human right, most of us could not last longer than 4 days without it!

Too many fat cats out there, with their greedy snouts in the trough! This should be a non-profit public endeavor, and should be a basic human right. Most bottled water is chemically enhanced and dangerous to drink! Life first profit last. It is our most precious commodity just like clean air!

Without doubt

Water is a basic human, animal, all species. Birthright. To drink clean water, breath fresh air, eat food of the earth and ocean. Live in peace with our brothers and sisters, so we may all be in service to one another, be respectful of all other living beings. Respect and Accept Earth is a living being and we live with her not on her. We share our birth rights with many species of which we are just one and one with all.

We can’t be sure that privatizing water can help

According to the Wall Street Journal article, Atlanta privatized its water service in the late 1990s, but had to retake control four years later because of poor water quality and cost overruns. And there was a public uproar in Illinois last year when the largest private water company, Illinois American Water Co., requested a 30 percent rate increase, which it said was needed for infrastructure improvements.

Water is everyones

Water is essential to everyone so if its privatized and we run out we could die. If water is taken away from us we could be in big trouble. I don’t know what brought upon this argument but it needs to be solved to keep it from dying so that is why we need water.

OF COURSE – no brainer this.

Gas, electricity, food, and water all essential for sustainable life. The exception here is WATER which is a NECESSITY not a luxury. Because we can control how much gas, electricity and food we consume and we pay an equal price for it. WATER is different and should always be FREE, as water is the most fundamental and natural resource we have which is in infinite supply, and we would die very fast without it, whereas we could get by without gas and electricity and processed food. We just grow and eat natural foods. Heating and gas are LUXURIES. Because we all rely on water to survive it should be FREE and PUBLIC. How dare someone make money from it its SICK. Id rather live next to a river and build my own water treatment machine than pay money to sick greedy private companies.

Water and food security | International Decade for Action – by Molly Sargen figures by Daniel Utter. Water makes up 60-75% of human body weight.
